LOUISVILLE SLUGGER® GAME-CHANGING, X-1 COMPOSITE BAT
ADDS THIRD MODEL TO FAST PITCH LINEUP
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville Slugger® TPS® Catalyst™ changed the face
of fastpitch softball in 2005 when Michigan’s exclusive use propelled the
Wolverines to a Women’s College World Series title. Two years later, the
Catalyst continues to dominate fastpitch and will again in 2008 with another new
model.
The FP82C bursts onto the scene this year in a -9-ounce model, available in 32-,
33- and 34-inch lengths. The newest addition to the bat rack gives fastpitch
players the choice of minus 8-, 9- or 10-ounce Catalysts.
Whether it’s a line drive through the left side that brings in a run or a deep blast
out of the park, the Catalyst changes the outcome of the game. The bat’s stiff
handle and flexible barrel transfer more energy than the trendy, whippy-handle
bats touted by other bat makers. The result is more consistent performance from
the Catalyst and those who swing the bat serve as catalysts for their teams.
The Catalyst’s stiff handles prevent a loss of energy on off-sweet spot hits. Unlike
flex-handle bats, a stiff handle bat allows batters to “feel the hit,” providing
feedback to become a better hitter.
Three teams swinging Catalysts advanced to the 2007 Women’s College World
Series. With the new FP82C in their hands at the plate, teams swinging the
Catalyst will be expected to make another strong showing in 2008.
The fastpitch Catalyst meet 1.20 BPF and are approved for play in ASA, USSSA,
ISA, ISF and NSA competition.
CATALYST’S X-1 TECHNOLOGY
Since turning its first bat in 1884, Louisville Slugger has set the standard for
performance technology at every level of play. Today, Louisville Slugger raises
that standard with the most advanced bat technology – X1 Composite.
That technology has produced the Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst. It is made
from multiple layers of 100 percent aerospace-grade graphite, which are
embedded in a specially designed toughened epoxy resin. Each layer is precisely
positioned at an angle determined by Louisville Slugger’s exclusive computerdesigned
pattern. That’s what makes Catalyst perform so well, while also
providing great durability.
Everything from the bat design to the equipment used in manufacturing was
developed by the Louisville Slugger Composites Research & Development Lab.
Controlling every aspect of design and manufacturing ensures that every bat is
consistently produced to Louisville Slugger’s high quality standards.
The 2008 lineup of fast pitch X-1 Catalysts includes the all-new FP82C model
available at a minus 9-ounce ratio and in lengths of 32-, 33- and 34-inches. The
Catalyst also returns the minus 10-ounce and minus 8-ounce models in 2008.
The minus 10-ounce FP81C comes in lengths ranging from 30 to 34 inches. The
minus 8-ounce FP83C is available in 32-, 33- and 34-inch lengths.
All models of the Catalyst have balanced swing weight, a synthetic grip with a
7/8” standard handle and the new Louisville Slugger End Cap specially designed
to allow maximum composite barrel flex.
