SPECIAL BAT FOR DEREK JETER
BEING CRAFTED TODAY
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (August 19, 2009) – With an RBI double on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees’ captain Derek Jeter earned his 2,674th hit as a Major League shortstop, the most in history for any player at that position. He surpassed Luis Aparicio who previously held the record at 2,673 over an 18 year career with the White Sox, Orioles, and Red Sox. All of Jeter’s hits have come with the Yankees. He also has 13 hits as a designated-hitter and is closing in on Lou Gehrig’s all-time hits record as a Yankee. Gehrig had 2,721 career hits in pinstripes.
Jeter is under contract with Louisville Slugger® and has used Louisville Slugger bats his entire career. Jeter’s achievement is just one more link for Louisville and Louisville Slugger in their long and storied history with Major League Baseball. The 125 year old company will honor Jeter and his latest milestone with a special bat that will be made and sent to Derek today.
